Nyako May Return To Nigeria Despite Being Wanted

The embattled former governor of Adamawa state, Admiral Murtala Nyako (rtd.), returned to Nigeria on May 30, 2015, Saturday.

Nyako, who was forced to flee Nigeria after being declared wanted by the EFCC, landed at about 4.42pm on board a London-Abuja flight operated by Lufthansa. The further steps of the anti-corruption agency are not clear.

An unnamed political aide of the ex-governor told The Punch that Nyako made the decision following the swearing-in of the new president, Muhammadu Buhari.

Murtala Nyako will head to  Yola, the capital of Adamawa state. However, he indends to stay in Abuja at least till June 1, Monday, to see President Buhari before leaving the nation’s capital.
“I’m back. Yes, I’m back in the country,” Nyako told a correspondent of The Punch by phone. “We must all join hands with him to repair the country.”
An unnamed aide to the former governor told a reporter that Buhari-Nyako meeting was being arranged:
“Baba Maigoro (as the former governor is called by his loyalists ) is planning to meet with the President before going to Yola. I’m not sure when that would be, but I heard him saying something like that. He is going to remain in Abuja till Monday.”

The former governor of Adamawa state was impeached on July 14, 2014, by the by the Adamawa State House of Assembly.
According to him, the impeachment saga and subsequent investigations by the EFCC was a result of his disagreement with former President Goodluck Jonathan earlier in 2014. The retired admiral had accused the then president of being related to the Boko Haram insurgency in the north east.

Nyako was one of the five governors that dumped the Peoples Democratic Party and joined the All Progressives Congress at the height of the PDP crisis.
The possible decision to return home triggered mixed reactions. Some Nigerians welcome the move, while others refer to Nyako as a ‘criminal':
