Twelve towers, 10,000 rooms and 70 restaurants, plus helipads and a full-size convention center: That’s the plan for Abraj Kudai, a complex in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, that’s set to become the world’s largest hotel by room count when it opens in 2017.

The £2.25billion development which is less than 2km from the holy mosque of Masjid al-Haram, will house over ten thousands worshipers visiting Saudi Arabia.

Architects Dar Al-Handasah said: “Due to its unparalleled size, height as well as distinguished location, exposure and architectural style, the building appears as a striking landmark with a profoundly modern multifunctional identity relating to both the Saudi locality and the Islamic universality of its expected users.”
The hotel will also include car parking and a shopping centre.
Next year, the Hilton chain is expected to complete a hotel in the area, named the Conrad Makkah.

Developers claim it will “help to meet the demands for a wider variety of accommodation from the rising number of pilgrims visiting Saudi Arabia every year”.
